The Scandinavian Spirit: Aquavit & Norwegian gin Masterclass at Rabbit Hole – Monday 22nd July 2019
The best cure for Monday is therapy with a centuries-old elixir from the northern reaches of Europe. Derived from the Latin phrase for “water of life,” Aquavit is a tradition throughout Nordic nations and the national spirit of Norway.
It’s distilled from grain or potato and usually flavored with caraway, a relative to fennel, as well as other herbs such as coriander or anise. Originating in the 16th century as a medicinal, Aquavit can be thought of as the ‘ya dong’ of medieval Norsemen.
Learn more about its rich flavor, story and preparation Monday afternoon from Morten Nystuen, founder of Nordic Bev Asia, who will be present to share this drinking tradition from his homeland. Morten will also be presenting Harahorn Gin, a small-batch gin named for a mountain peak in central Norway. Be sure to ask him the story behind the moose-rabbit creature on the bottle.
Just coming in for therapy? Starting at 8pm, Morten will be pouring savory flavors as our guest behind the bar for two hours starting at 8pm.
Masterclass participants should RSVP with Khun Amorn, aka Noir, at 084 427 7220. Otherwise, entry is free for the latest in our “Guest Shift” series. See you there.
