URBAN TEMPLATES – Works by JAMES BATCHELOR & COLLABORATORS and NAVINDA PACHIMSAWAT VADTANAKOVINT (LORDFAI) & COLLABORATORS
URBAN TEMPLATES is a double bill contemporary dance performance by young choreographers James Batchelor and Navinda Pachimsawat Vadtanakovint (Lordfai) examining human interactions within the urban landscape. Working with support from the Australia Thailand Institute, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. These two exciting and innovative new works both bring together an exciting mix of Australian and Thai artists working across various arts disciplines.
METASYSTEMS is a new work by award winning Australian choreographer James Batchelor. Documenting the processes taking place at construction sites in Bangkok, METASYSTEMS is an observation of the rapidly evolving urban landscape. 8 Thai and Australian performers and 512 concrete bricks are constructed and assembled in mesmerizing patterns and rhythms. Batchelor is developing METASYSTEMS as part of a 5-week residency in Bangkok with support from the Australia Thailand Institute Artist in Residency Program.
FRACTALS is an integration of dance and architectural installation. It explores the standardized and repetitive patterns in human behaviors, within the safe-zone of social norms that we ourselves created and accept. The work portrays machine-like ways of living, our constant attempt to achieve the perfect standardize form, through the construction of uniform geometrical structures on stage. Navinda is developing FRACTALS alongside collaborating performers, architects and sound designer from Australia and Thailand with the support of Australia-Thailand Institute Grant.
