Sri Lanka – ADB continues to offer crucial support for the Sri Lanka health sector

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has donated a fleet of ambulances and vehicles to the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health, which in turn handed them over to hospitals across the country.

Dr. Rajitha Senaratne – former Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, said that the ADB has long been a staunch supporter of the country’s health sector, adding that the government in the last recent years has not done enough work to support the embattled sector, as he emphasized the importance and vitality of the donation by the Bank to support the sick and needy.

For his part, Mr. Ravi Kumudesh – the President of the Association of Health Professionals, said that the government has not spent enough money from tax to improve the health services in the country, adding that they are “by no means sufficient to maintain the quality of the health services.” Nonetheless, he said that the policy-making within the health service in Sri Lanka is moving forward like the rest of the world entirely under this international focus to improve health services.
